People enjoy going to open houses! Some go just for fun, to perhaps get ideas on decorating, or on how to re-do your basement so it’s functional. In the summer, you can get some fun landscaping ideas as well. If you’re only looking for fun… that’s fine. BUT, if you’re actually looking to buy a house, you need to know how much you can afford to spend BEFORE you start house hunting.

Quite often people are disappointed when, after looking at numerous houses, they find out that they can’t afford the house they were interested in. By the same token, many are pleasantly surprised when they learn they can spend more than they thought! Speak to a mortgage agent first, and find out what price range you should be looking at. Then let the search begin!

Once you know how much you can spend, your REALTOR will show you houses within your budget and that meet your criteria. Their knowledge and expertise will also guide you to be sure you don’t over-pay for a property. In this ‘bidding war’ era, that is very important!
